electrofringeprojections 2004

how many ideas does it take to
make an artwork?
the answer i would
humbly suggest is : more than one - but perhaps the title of the festival which
accompanies newcastle's electrofringe this is not art is
apt
what it more disturbing is that it
takes two curators (gail priest and sumugan sivanesan) and 16 sponsors to enable
this woeful rubbish to be exhibited
yew sun's tedious video noise loops (thankfully
only an extract) add nothing to the well trodden paths of this
genre
scott morrison's insipid video
collage of time lapse stills moving through a field with the mirror effect
applied probably in adobe premiere is certainly less than inspiring- if it was
a first year student you'd have difficulty squeezing a credit out of
it
two women playing in a small white box
shot from above in very high contrast probably with a wide angle security camera
(costenoble) or a close up of the mouth of a topless woman chewing bubblegum and
blowing a bubble (tanya v) or a wobbly video of a schoolboy playing air guitar
on the big screen in federation square (green) don't make me hard
either
a large number of more or less
related words (font : impact at a guess - black on a white background) with
thanks to the department of psycholinguistics leave me stone cold (nguyen nguyen
brown) and a series of (again!) close ups of mouths - these at least are making
a noise but without mammary distractions and nothing to get worked up about
either (foster)
i am going home now : i
am depressed
